Easter Ride-Wrap Up
Deceided to do a desert ride on Easter Sunday in Anza Borrego State Park along Fish Creek Wash trail. Anza Borrego is a desert park located about 100 east of San Diego. The weather was looking promising for this time of year as it was only projected to be in the low 80’s.
Big Steve arrived about 8:00 a.m. and the weather was socked in here at the house – a heavy marine layer with sprinkles. We loaded up my bike along side his in the back of his pickup truck and headed east out on highway 78. We stopped in the mountain town of Julian for breakfast before heading down the grade to the desert.
I had ridden Fish Creek Wash on a mountain bike about 20 years ago and I was looking forward to riding it again on a dirt bike this time around. It is a ride that climbs from about sea level to 3300 feet in about 25 miles and winds through a canyon at it’s mouth and through a mountain meadow up near the top. We road in about 25 miles in and turned around to ride back out and to explore some of the other canyons in the area. When I stopped to see how Steve was doing, I notice quite a bit of oil dripping from his bike, so we decieded to call it a day and make it back to the truck.
