A fantastic first day
Relaxing at Furness Creek after a fantastic first day. You can see from Spot what our route was – as we progressed we continued on less travelled roads. I have to agree with Jim – the road less travelled is much more enjoyable.
Some things about riding were unexpected. There was a cross wind as we travelled between Victorville and Kramer Junction and I felt like the wind was trying to rip me off the back of the bike. Fortunately that didnt last too long. It was colder than I expected. I dressed with the same number of layers as Jim when we left but found I needed one or two more to keep comfortable. And then there is helmet hair. Not something Jim is likely to complain about
The landscape was just spectacular as we travelled into Death Valley. And you feel part of it while on the bike. Not like being in a car. Even though it was hot, zooming along on the bike kept you comfortable. Less and less vegetation. Browner and browner as we went
Furness Creek is an oasis in the desert. Sudden green and palm trees. After we checked in and enjoyed the pool, we did a little ride out to Artists Drive before dinner. The setting sunlight lit up the colors in the rocks. The pictures just dont capture it
FINALLY!!!! Now I’m REALLY jealous!! What a fabulous adventure. Right now I can’t view the video – it says “Private”, then when I clicked for more info, I got an error occurred. Just what you want to do…trouble-shoot IT problems. Alternatively, post more pics & worry about videos later 😀
Remember, you’re in danger of losing your Grand Canyon reservations if I don’t get my picture fix!
P.S. Can’t watch it on You Tube or direct from here.
You’re at the Subway….REALLY??!! Actually, that was a main-stay for the Divas cross-country trek. 😀
Latest word on lodging….still no rooms with a view. Sometimes it’s no rooms at all, other times, there’s a room, but no view. It’s been flip-flopping all day between the 2 places. I feel like I can call and say, “It’s me again, any changes?” The Kachina guy’s final words were “You’re more than welcome to check back tomorrow when you get into the park, that may have changed.” I’ll try again later tonight. Let me know via text or email if you want me to call during the day while you’re headed that way. Probably can’t call as often as today since some of us still have to work…work…work, but I could call first thing in the morning, on my lunch…later in the day.
However, if I don’t see some pics & blogging soon, you won’t have either room!! I’m talking to myself here!
EXCELLENT!!! Thank you!!!! Enjoy your dinner at Zion…and the owl show.
Wow! what a cool video – I loved watching it. Only one of my horses came in, so I lost all my bets. Oh well– had fun trying. How is your butt holding up , Joyce? That was my biggest priblem when I went on a long bike trip.
It’s better than a bicycle seat but you still feel it. Today was better There’s a spot on my back that leans against the luggage, which is right behind me that was a little sore. But that was better today too. Too bad the roomabas don’t ride. We’d have fun doing a trip like this. Sorry about your horses but glad to hear you had fun at your party. Bet the mint julips were delish
Such a beautiful place. Glad you guys are having fun!
Well, Joyce, the Roomabas might not be motorcycle riders, but there is an alternative. When you commented about feeling part of the landscape, I was going to say that we feel that way when we are on road trips in the Porsche. So, the Roomabas could do a road trip in a convertible. Unfortunately, yours is on one coast and mine is on the other, so we’d have to just rent something that is a four-seater rather than try a caravan with the two cars.
You are so right, Joan. I keep telling Jim that the little convertible is a close second to the bike, but he poo poos the thought. Says its too cushy. If it rains, you can put the top up. If it’s cold, you can crank up the heat. On the bike you have to deal with the elements as they come. I say yeah for cushy – gets you a close second to the bike. We were lucky that we had great weather and for the most part didn’t have to deal with the elements. With Jim’s experience we were well prepared fore the weather we encountered. I’ll have to see about renting a convertible on our next reunion. Would be fun
