Boom, Day 3 done… 70 miles

I thought maybe this last day would be hard, but it’s amazing what a bullet coffee in the morning and two Advils can do.  Plus a day where you have plenty of time helps.

I finished at the train station in downtown San Diego, but the official Pacific Coast ride still goes another 20 miles down the coast to the border-that I’ll save for another time.  I didn’t want to add another 40 miles to the day.

nice overcast day for most of the ride

I learned a lot from this trip to help with planning a longer trip in the future and in researching for some more info.  Granted, I was carry very little on  this trip, but I have a better understanding of what type of bike I should be looking for and realistic mileage days to expect without killing yourself.

Oceanside.

oceanside…i wonder if i could grab those doritos

Something new though, the Las Pulgas gate into Camp Pendelton was closed due to construction and a race of some sort.  So bicyclist that normally go through here had to use the freeway shoulder-never done that before.  It actually was easier than going through the base, but it was louder, lol.

a first, getting on 5 south to ride the shoulder

im actually passing cats

First Break

San Onfre state beach.  A familiar spot that we break at on this ride.  This is a regular route that I do, and like Johnny told me last night, treat it like an old friend and enjoy.

So far, good advice.  Not in a hurry today…

10 mile reat point

So far, the weather is a thick marine layer, a bit on the humid side for SoCal, and lots of group riders that I just have to ignor, lol.  Tend to get competive and want to pass them.

Day 3-SJC to SD

Should be about 75 miles.  I’ve done this stretch in 5 to 5 1/2 hrs before.  I have at 7:00 pm train ride back to SJC, and it’s about 9 am now, so plenty of time to take it easy.

the old bike has served well. tires pumped up, lightened load, ready to roll
